Notes | A one-page quick reference designed as an aid to estimating numbers in the field. Research has shown that one of the main sources of error and variation in our estimates of numbers is the absence of a known number for "calibration". Looking at this image in the field will give a clear sense of what 100 dots look like, and will provide a sort of baseline for estimating numbers in flocks of birds. |
